Smith+Nephew opens new Robotics R&D Center in Pittsburgh, PA

British Smith+Nephew Group, which specializes in surgical robotics technology, celebrated in October 2021 the official grand opening of its new U.-S. Research and Development center. This center tests the latest S+N robotics assisted surgical devices used in hip and knee replacements for its market readiness.

“We’re celebrating health care, robotics and the awesome talented workforce, all coming together in Pittsburgh,” said President of R&D Vasant Padmanabhan, citing the success of S+N company in Pennsylvania since 2016, employing today about 300 in the state.

“We talk a lot in Pittsburgh and at the state level about how this city has become a global hub for the tech and innovation center and for robotics in particular,” outlined Pennsylvania Secretary of Community and Economic Development Dennis Davin. “Every ribbon cutting of a new or another expansion project for a robotics science and life science center in Pittsburgh signals to the world that if you’re a Tech and Innovation Company and you’re looking for a place to grow and expand, Pittsburgh is a place to do it!”
